With its experience and successes achieved on the UCI Downhill World Cup tracks alongside its partner teams, Michelin is strengthening its range of tires specially dedicated to this practice. The MICHELIN DH16 Racing Line tire provides an even more effective and targeted response to the demands of this highly technical discipline, in which tires play a predominant role.
In downhill, the stresses on the tire are exceptionally high. The tire must both offer an exemplary "feel" for the track and resist the strong stresses linked to jump landings, those generated by very violent cornering supports, and also the risks of perforation or punctures. Michelin has redesigned the architecture of the new MICHELIN DH Racing Line range. The latter is now composed of a Dual Ply 55 / 120 TPI casing to limit crushing during landings and thus allow for more efficient re-acceleration. This construction also improves stability in corners, thanks to a limitation of casing deformation. To ensure better puncture resistance, a double layer of braided nylon is inserted over the entire tire and reinforces the use of a protection that extends from one bead to the other. This more robust construction does not make the tires heavier; on the contrary, they are 11% lighter than previous models. The rider thus obtains more efficient re-acceleration for the same effort.
In a downhill event, tire grip is one of the predominant factors for safety and performance. More grip means more confidence for the rider and therefore higher cornering speeds. That's why MICHELIN engineers opted for the use of Magi-X rubber across the entire new MICHELIN DH Racing Line range. This technology, combined with the specific tread pattern for each reference, provides maximum grip from the lowest temperatures and regardless of the terrain profile encountered or track conditions. Furthermore, it allows for an overall efficiency that is 19% better than that of the previous generation.
The MICHELIN DH16 offers a tread specifically designed for hard to mixed track use. The side knobs have a new specific design to provide more grip, and thus more confidence in corners. An exclusive design allows the DH16 to have the most efficient void ratio in the range. More ground contact means more grip, better load distribution, and increased tire longevity. The MICHELIN DH 16 is the fastest tire in the DH Racing Line range.
